For its self-protection, a helicopter can be equipped with radar, infra-red or laser warning systems that are designed to detect a missile threat. However no such protection does exist for small arm fire (except the helicopter armour). Even the basic level of alarm is not provided since the hearing capacity of the both pilot and co-pilot are overwhelmed by the self-noise of the helicopter, as well as their operational involvement.
To avoid vulnerability to shoulder launched missiles combat, helicopters will fly low avoiding detection and visibility from radars while minimizing time of engagement opportunities from shoulder fired IR missiles. This places helicopters at more and more risk from small arms.
The only technology which is currently reliable and available on the market in order to give a valuable early warning to the pilot/crew of this threat is the acoustics.
We are the ideal partner to facilitate your integration work and to bring our solutions to each specific helicopter platform for an interoperability with the on-board Early Warning System to achieve higher levels of capabilities.
